I got into coaching to develop players. Nineteen years later, I still believe that is the most important thing you can do for a young athlete. Not just on the field, but in how they carry themselves, how they handle adversity, and how they think about their future beyond the game.

I have coached at almost every level of football, from eight-man ball in Colorado all the way to Oklahoma State University. Along the way I have seen the recruiting process from both sides. I know what it looks like from a high school athlete's perspective, where talented kids get overlooked every single year. And I know what it looks like from inside a Power 4 program, where coaches are deciding who gets a shot and who does not.

Over the years, I have seen the same thing over and over. Good kids. Hard workers. Athletes with real ability who were getting lost in a process that nobody explained to them or their families. The transfer portal, NIL, scholarship availability, what coaches are actually looking for on film. It has never been more confusing, and families are navigating it mostly alone.

The player I think about most was from a tiny eight-man school in Colorado. He was one of the best athletes I have ever coached. He ended up with one offer and he deserved more looks than he got. He had the ability. The problem was nobody with the right connections knew he existed.

That stuck with me. It still does. And it drives me to help as many athletes as I can.
